I am very conscious of fear and anxiety for many people as a result of Covid, as well as a lot of stress because of the impact of everything that is happening currently.

To help I want to give you some practical tips on how you can reduce your anxiety about Covid and strengthen your immune system.

When we are frightened or anxious our body goes into what is known as a “fight flight” response to deal with the “perceived danger”. One of the body’s responses to fight flight is to shut down our immune system.
This is particularly concerning because we need our immune system to be strong, to protect us from infections and to fight the infection if we caught the Covid virus.

So when you start to feel anxious about Covid and it’s impact on you, acknowledge this and know that one of the best things you can do to protect yourself, is to reduce your anxiety to help you maintain a strong immune system.

You can choose whatever it is that works for you to reduce anxiety. It might be doing some relaxed breathing, or using a mindfulness technique. You could distract yourself, or talk to someone. Perhaps go for a walk, go into the garden, listen to music, or do something that you enjoy.

Put simply: In addition to the publicised practical guidelines, protect yourself against Covid by choosing whatever it is that helps you to relax your body or your mind.
And feel good that you are doing the best you can to help yourself.
